PEP Language Arts Performance Task was Manageable

March 27, 2019, was the starting of the PEP Performance Task (PT). Today,  students did the Language Art Performance Task based on observing healthy eating habits, teachers did their Teacher Activity (TA), then instructed students to complete their PT. In the PT, there were two sources, Source 1: A letter to an editor discussing the benefits of eating healthy, specifically reducing sugary drink in student’s diet and discussing the effects of doing so, Source 2: A dialogue among parents and grandparents on whether or not sugar drinks were the cause of health related problems.

The PT consisted of two parts, Part 1 had 3 tasks, student was to choose do either question 1 or 2 in Task 1, Task 2 had a table were students got some statements and was to shade whether Source 1 supported, Source 2 supported, both Source 1 and 2 supported or neither sources supported the statements. In Task 3, students were asked to use evidence from Source 1 and Source 2 to explain what might happen to a student who consumed large amount of sugary drinks. All the questions required students to used the information from the sources. Students had lunch. After lunch students completed Part 2. In Part 2 student were asked to write an essay on things that students can do to remain healthy. Students were given 2 hours to complete the exam, 60 minutes for Part 1 and another 60 minutes for Part 2.

Students would have just left the out of the examination room, and the word on the street is that the exam was manageable, some would say easy, and that they “bills” it, meaning they got a hundred.

Tomorrow, March 27, 2019, students will do the Mathematics Performance Task, we are hoping that exam will also be as manageable.
