It’s ok to FAIL at Math

It’s probably the most relieving thing to hear, that it’s ok to FAIL at Mathematics. Many people struggle with having to redo Mathematics test and exams repeatedly. However, what they need to realize is that they did not fail, the strategies that they were taught to use to solve mathematical problems had failed.

The presenter at the Reggae Math Foundation, Math Professional Developement Workshop on Teaching Students to Develop Problem Solving Strategies, Dr Tamara Pearson, Associate Director of School & Community Engagement at the Center of Education Integrating Science, Mathematics and Computing (CEISMC) related in the two days workshop held at the Excelsior College, Kingston, that it’s indeed okay and that she too encountered the ‘math wall’, that almost seemingly unsurpassable blockage in the brain about about the misconception of mathematics. “Math is hard to everyone at some time in their life.”

She alluded that the important this is to persevere, ‘dive in and face your fears'”. You might have to regroup and try all over again but it’s definitely worth it, given the satisfaction one will harness when you have overcome that hurdle.
