Jamaican Schools SHUTDOWN

The Prime Minister of Jamaica, Hon. Andrew Holness, held an emergency press conference on Thursday, March 12, 2020, ordering an island-wide shut down of schools for 14 days amid Coronavirus scare.

Schools including Universities and Community colleges have also been closed. The second phase of the Grade 6 PEP Examination, Performance task, that was schedule to take place on March 19 and 20 have been postponed until further notice.

The Prime Minister has advised the public that the education ministry is currently seeking ways to facilitate online classes during the break and that students are to constantly keep themselves abreast with the work that was done at school, and leverage the time rather than regarding it as ‘free’ time.

The Grade 5 and 4 PEP Performance Task Examinations will also have to be rescheduled. It is certainly not business as usual in the education sector.
